L. Ron Hubbard, author (March 13, 1911 – January 24, 1986)
In 1924, L. Ron Hubbard became America’s youngest Eagle Scout. He failed his university courses as a result of spending the majority of his campus time arranging activities for the university gliding club.
Between 1933 and 1938, Hubbard wrote 138 complete novels. It’s believed he was averaging 1,000,000 written words a year at this point, and around 70 words a minute. In 1966, Hubbard emigrated to Rhodesia, claiming to be the reincarnation of mining magnate and colonialist Cecil Rhodes. After the nation was hit by UN sanctions, Hubbard offered to invest large sums into Prime Minister Ian Smith’s government. He was asked to leave the country.
Hubbard is the world’s most published author, his works appearing in 71 languages. In a letter to his agent, he promised that his novel “Science of the Mind” would contain the secret of “how to rape women without their knowing it and evolve the best way of destroying Communism”.
