Grouper – heavy water/i’d rather be sleeping

grouper_2

I have been sober for a year but I miss loads of things about taking loads of drugs every weekend, and funnily enough, something I actually do kind of miss is the comedown.

I don’t miss the worktime comedown, where you’re struggling to concentrate on an email for four hours and you have to go to the bathroom and cry for twenty minutes on lunch, or if you’re working in a trainer store and Italian tourists ask you for European sizes and you want to punch them in the nose just for wanting to buy Osaka Tiger trainers in the first place.

The comedown I miss is the Sunday afternoon comedown, where you feel shitty but you can manage a leisurely shower and a trip to the shop for a big carton of Tropicana and a copy of Viz. You come back, hide in your room (maybe with your gal pal) drink the Tropicana, read the Viz, listen to some music and feel melancholic and reflect on all the great times you had over the weekend.

If I was still doing drugs, I would listen to this shoegaze-y, sad number from Portland, Oregon’s Grouper (Liz Harris), while I was putting Bonjela on the inside of my mouth and fighting back the tears during an episode of Friends that I’d already seen a billion times.
