If you live in or around London or Leeds, you have to go to carnival, it is literally the best thing that ever ever ever ever ever happens in this country, and there is no excuse for not going - if you don’t, you’re a total idiot.
Anyway as you might have gathered, I cannot wait. I’ve been checking the weather forecast 4 times a day and have started blinking lots (this always means I’m sick with excitement). The places to go are ‘This Ya Generation’ on Powis Terrace, and Oi You sound system on Portabello Road outside the Duke Of Wellington (I’m djing there at 6pm Monday too). The best tip I/anyone can give you is that Carnival is a so much better if you know the biggest dancehall tracks, you can’t get properly into it without recognizing the best tracks the second they get played, watch the video below and you’ll know what I mean. I’m quite happy with my mix, it has pretty much everything I expect, and want to hear at Carnival this year, download it and let me know if you hate it or love it.

P.S. The whole ‘Gaza / Gully’ thang is basically Vybz Kartel warring with Mavado - each ‘DJ’ claims to be tougher than the other (boys will be boys), and the war (where ‘diss’ tunes are the weapons) has seemingly divided hardcore dancehall fans across the world… Which I don’t really understand because Vybz Kartel is clearly way way way harder.
